Bovaclox® Dry Cow

Bovaclox is an intramammary antibiotic infusion supplied as a single dose 4.5g syringe containing 500mg cloxacillin (as the benzathine salt) and 250mg ampicillin (as the trihydrate) in a long-acting base with 3% aluminium stearate.

Uses
Bovaclox is to be used at drying off, immediately after the last milking of the lactation to treat existing subclinical mastitis and to prevent further infection during the first 4 weeks of the dry period.

Administration must not be delayed. Use in conjunction with teat spraying and proper management of the cow during the drying off period.

How it works
Bovaclox is an ideal short-acting dry cow therapy against a broad-spectrum of pathogens in low challenge situations.

Bovaclox Dry Cow’s dual activity against major mastitis pathogens enhances effectiveness.

  • Cloxacillin provides efficacy against the penicillin resistant strains of Staphylococcus aureus, as well as efficacy against Streptococci and Cornebacterium (Actinomyces spp).

  • Ampicillin enhances this efficacy, particularly given that it is able to inhibit  Streptococcus uberis at markedly lower concentration than cloxacillin. It also provides efficacy against coliform organisms at drying off.

Bovaclox Dry Cow provides protection over the early dry period by maintaining effective antibiotic levels in the udder tissue and secretions to protect against the major mastitis pathogens and prevent new infections for 4 weeks. This covers the important period of mammary gland involution when cows are highly prone to new intramammary infections.
