Regumate - the original oral progesterone. Regumate contains the synthetic progestagen – altrenogest. Altrenogest mimics the action of the mare's progesterone. This allows the use of Regumate as a tool for control of the breeding cycle in mares including induction of ovulatory oestrus, suppression of oestrus in normally cycling mares, and as a treatment for habitually-aborting mares that require assistance for maintaining their pregnancy.
Benefits of Regumate: Oral administration with rapid absorption and fast onset of action. Readily eliminated from the body (no accumulation). Adjust length of treatment according to the season (early = longer, later = shorter). Administration through a drench gun reduces contact between the active hormone and the administrator.
Key benefits of using reproductive hormones for control of the equine breeding cycle: Allows pre-planning to minimise costs. Proven and accurate results. Cost-effective management of equipment, stud staff and veterinary time. Programmes can be ceased at any time and mares will return to oestrus within a normal cycle.
The use of these hormones under close veterinary supervision facilitates management of single or groups of mares (stud) without any detrimental effect on the mare’s fertility. Talk to your equine veterinarian about the best solutions for managing your mare.
